NEW Adult Study Coming Sunday, JUNE 1st :
The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming.
Beginning June 1st and continuing each Sunday through June 29… a study for adults based on Henri Nouwen's book, The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming.
The book is one of Nouwen’s most popular and influential works. It is his deep reflection on the Parable of the Prodigal Son from the Gospel of Luke through the lens of Rembrandt's painting of the same name.
In the book, Nouwen explores the psychological and spiritual dimensions of the parable, identifying with each of the characters: the younger son, the elder son, and the compassionate father. He delves into themes of homecoming, forgiveness, jealousy, self-discovery, and the boundless love of God.
Nouwen's personal journey and his encounters with Rembrandt's art profoundly shaped his insights in this book. He doesn't just offer a theological analysis but shares a deeply personal and moving meditation on what it means to be lost, to return, and to be embraced by a loving parent. He also challenges readers to consider where they see themselves in the story and the transformative call to become like the forgiving father.
This study provides a unique opportunity for participants to examine their own spiritual journeys and to rediscover where we see ourselves in this powerful narrative. Whether you are familiar with Nouwen's writing or new to his insights, all are welcome to join us as we adventure into the depths of this moving story and its relevance to our lives today.
Henri Nouwen's book will be available for pick-up soon.
Mike Vaughn will facilitate.
This class will be repeated on Tuesday evenings at 7PM beginning June 3rd.
